It’s an exciting time of year for all the FIMS fans out there. Between events and applications and ITR and midterms and recovering from reading week (still?) there’s a lot going on and an awful lot of stuff to keep track of. Thankfully, your friendly neighbourhood mitZine has you covered.
Here’s all the big stuff going on in FIMS for the rest of the year.
The final issue of the year will be on stands on March 30th. In addition to critical commentary on the CRTC, UWO’s Israel Apartheid Week, and the Middle East’s revolutionary spirit, this edition will feature the inaugural mitZine Awards to recognize exceptional people in FIMS.
The big category? Instructor of the year. Vote for your top prof in this Zine survey.
Now’s your chance to get involved with the Faculty of Information and Media Studies’ student government. Applications for the 2011/2012 MITSC are available now at mitsc.ca and are due this Friday (March 18th).
15 positions are available, including mitZine Editor-in-Chief. If you have any questions about the positions or the process, don’t hesitate to contact incoming president Zach Valliant (email@example.com), incoming councillor Jess Bronstein (firstname.lastname@example.org), or any current members of the MITSC.
Looking for a different kind of leadership position within FIMS? Applications for mitZine assistant editors will be available at the end of March, so stay tuned.
Sure, the Inappropriate Office Party was the highlight of the year so far, but it’s got nothing on MIT Formal. This year’s wet/dry soirée is taking place March 24th at the Delta Hotel with the intriguing tagline “A Year Eleven Formal”. Get your party hat on by attending the event page on Facebook, and get your ticket for $10 from InfoSource while they last.
Career Day is coming up on April 1st. Some details are still being worked out, but the event will feature a variety of MIT grads and other speakers talking about careers in the media field. Times and location to be announced. There will be free snacks.
FIMS’ Grad Day will take place April 8th. It’s an awesome opportunity for the graduating class to spend one last day together socializing, making connections, and preparing for the future. In addition to the motivational stylings of Kendra Redding, attendees will receive a graduating gift and free snacks. More details still to come.
Odds and Ends
The MITSC will be hosting another Student Panel on March 29th at 4:00pm (location TBD). These panels are a chance for students in MIT/MTP/MPI to voice their concerns about the faculty and help make things better for next year. If you’ve got a bone to pick with the MITSC, or you just want to be a part of the FIMS discourse moving forward, email Lauren Nisbet (email@example.com) expressing your interest.
The final deadline for applications to the Undergraduate Student Fund are due March 30th. Need some money for a project, event, or service that will benefit the FIMS community? Apply to the USF. Contact Erika Casupanan (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information.
Finally, a big shout-out to the incoming MIT Soph Team who are going to rock O-Week 2k11 like never before.
